Buddy Walk - Our Annual Flagship EventEstablished in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome, Buddy Walks are held across the United States. Our Buddy Walk is our largest event and biggest fundraiser of the year, with 100 volunteers and over 600 generous donors and walkers! The event brings us together for a common cause and is a fun day to be sure, but it's also a very important one. Many families attending the Buddy Walk are first timers who are still figuring out what the diagnosis means for their loved one. Seeing the hopeful possibilities and learning from other families is an uplifting experience that brings us back year after year.

YES21!YES21! is a program for our young adults. Any individual in our CRDSS family who is age 18 and older is welcome to be a part. YES21! is about having fun and socializing. We’ve gone to the movies, held barbecues, and even went horseback riding! The chaperoned events are structured to create lots of fun and wonderful opportunities for engagement. The full name is ‘Young Elite Society’ and the ‘21’ represents both the transition into adulthood and the Down syndrome chromosome. But we like calling ourselves YES21!

Spikes BaseballCRDSS has a great relationship with the Spikes Organizations and Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College. Traditionally we have purchased a block of tickets for the summer season games and offered these tickets to our members at no cost. We have also organized a ‘CRDSS Community Night’ when we all gather together for a game with fireworks display. Medlar Field has also hosted the Buddy Walk multiple times. Stay tuned for the 2023 offerings.

3-21 Annual CelebrationsDeclared by the United Nations in 2011, World Down Syndrome Day is held annually on March 21st (3/21). The date represents the triplicate copy of the 21st chromosome, which all people who have Down syndrome possess. CRDSS loves to celebrate the day each year. Our dance was held virtually in '20 & '21 but we were together again on March 21, 2023 and celebrated with joy! Enjoy our photos & video below.

Summer CarnivalWarm bright days deliver the perfect time for our community to join together to Celebrate Summer! The summer of 2022 had us gather at Spring Creek Park in State College for an afternoon of fun for our first annual Summer Carnival! The day’s activities included circus arts performances, face painting, a photo booth, dance steps activity, games & crafts and much more. We keep the meal simple at Summer Carnival by inviting everyone to pack their own picnic lunch. Stay tuned for plans for the 2023 Summer Carnival!
